George Washing McGhee, 69, of Raven, Va., died late Saturday in a Richlands, Va., hospital following a long illness.

Born in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late John W. and Geneva Anderson McGhee. He was a lifelong resident of the Horton Ridge section of Russell County and was a retired miner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Caroline McGhee.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Louise) Hill of Raven, Va, and Mrs. Lion (Estia) Chapman of Swords Creek, Va.; three sons, Curtis Floyd McGhee of Raven, George McGhee Jr. of Richlands, Va. and Johnny William McGhee of New Carliske, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Louis Guess of Mayberry, Mrs. Dixie Spruell of Millersville, Md., and Mrs. Mary Smity of Zephryshill, Fla.; two brothers, Clarence McGhee of Swords Creek, Va, and Elbert McGhee of Baltimore, Md.; twenty one grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Pine Creek Holiness Church with Rev. Ancil Childress, Rev. Acie Blankenship and Rev. Carl Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the McGhee Family Cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The body has been removed to the residence of Curtis McGhee at Raven where friends may call. Tazewell County Funeral Home in Cedar Bluff, Va., is in charge of funeral arrangements.
