CHESTER -- Rose E. Higgins, 71, of R.D. 1, died Friday, July 5, 2002 at home.

She was born Jan. 23, 1931 in St. Marys, W.Va., a daughter of the late Abraham and Viola Mercer.

She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Higgins Sr.* and a son, Robert J. Higgins.

She is survived by four sons, Chester T. Higgins of West Point, William F. Higgins and David A. Higgins of Chester and Mark Higgins of Newark, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Veronica) Harlan of Newark, Mrs. Ted (Sandy) McCoy of New Cumberland, and Terri Wells of Chester; a brother, Jack Mercer of North Carolina; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Aaron Gooden of Chester First United Methodist Church will conduct the services 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
