John Wesley Kilts was born Oct. 17, 1878, at Braymer, Mo., to Abraham and Mollie Kilts.
He received three months of formal education at a country school and farmed for a living.
Mr. Kilts died Nov. 5, 1970, at his farm home east of Arnolds Park of a lingering illness and self-inflicted wound.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 7, at Leyson Funeral Chapel in Milford with the Rev. Paul Baiotto officiating. Among the floral arrangements were a casket bouquet from his children and a large bouquet from his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Pallbearers were Forrest Jones, Dick McCann, Floyd Gottsche, Elmer Nielsen, Floyd Fliss, and Don Antisdel.
Burial was in Okoboji Cemetery at Arnolds Park.
Survivors include: his children, Alfred F. Kilts of Lynwood, Calif., Victor V. Kilts of St. David, Ariz., Elmer E. Kilts of Arnolds Park, Glen V. Kilts of Milford, and Mrs. Arlo (Rhea) Lenz of Milford; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister, and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Anna, in 1943, and a son, Dexter Dean; in 1921
