Viola was an evangelistic singer for many years and was active in women's work in the Democratic Party. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as the Pueblo Chapter No, 7, Order of the Eastern Star.

She lived in Pueblo, Colorado from 1945 to 1960 before moving to Colorado Springs in 1960.

Viola was married four times.

Her first husband was Warren Danforth Silkman. He was killed in an automobile accident on Stag Hill in Manhattan Kansas on his way for a "house call". Her second husband was Charles Stephens of Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas. Charles and Viola had one child, Charles, which died at birth. After the death of Charles Stephens, Viola married Charles Garrett of Pueblo, Colorado, a school teacher. After the death of Charles Garrets she married married John Sayre a Railroad man. John died before Viola. When she died she was laid to rest beside her third husband Charles Garrett.

She had one child with Charles Stephens--Charles Robert. Charles was born July 8, 1910 and only lived a few hours.
