Charles was the son of William Blaine & Mary Huff Macy, the eldest of 12 children.

On 19 Feb 1852, he married Mary Jane Meador.

They were the parents of 9 children-Robert Taylor (died young), Mary Eliza (died young), Sarah Lydia (Spears), Nancy Elizabeth (White), William Stephen, Martha Jane (Criswell), Rachel Frances (Edson-O'Conner),Charles Thomas, and Laura Isabel (Caruthers).
