Alphonsus Krebsbach 1904-1988 (Obituary)

Alphonsus Krebsbach, lifelong resident of Adams, served as Postmaster in Adams for over 25 years. He was born Feb. 18, 1904, the son of John P and Anna Krebsbach.

He attended Adams High School, St. Mary's College and the Minneapolis Business School. He continued the family's Adam's Furniture Store and he was particularly proud of the Adams community, taking an active role throughout his life in its overall development.
He was an active member of Sacred Heart Church and interested in the development of its school program. As an avid golfer, he was also instrumental in the building of the Cedar River Golf Course.

He came from a musical family and had a keen interest in music all his life. As a young man, he played clarinet and saxophone in Minnesota bands, which toured Iowa and Minnesota. He also sang tenor and directed the Men's Choir and later the mixed choir of Sacred Heart Church for many years. He supported the Austin Concert Series and also the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Krebsbach, who died in 1974 and a sister, Regina A. Gurvin, who died in 1976.

The funeral mass for Alphonnsus Krebsbach was held Feb. 5, 1988, at 11 a.m. In Sacred Heart Church, Adams, Fr. Andrew Kreidermacher officiating. The Sacred Heart Church Choir sang, directed by Mrs. Gladys Osmundson, and also a Male Quartet with Robert Schneider, Larry Nerison, James Schroeder, and soloist, Del Mueller. The organist was Mrs. Joyce Edlund.

Pallbearers included Lloyd Boyum, Lester Goergen, John Queensland, Daniel Braun, Curtis Hamilton, Robert Schneider, and honorary pallbearers: Steve Freund, Cleo Leighton, Dr. Paul Schneider, John Koenigs, Fr. Schimek, Gene Boyum. He is survived by his nephew, David Krebsbach, Frankfurt, Germany; his niece, Anne Jeanne Gurvin, Washington, D.C,; nephews, Richard Gurvin, Silver Spring, Md; Peter Gurvin, Bethesda, Md.; George Gurvin, Cairo, Egypt; John Gurvin, Sierra Vista, Arizona.
