Between 16 July, 1946, and 12 July, 1947, Sarah Cordelia "Delia" Crain came to live in Hamilton County, TX, first with my grandmother, Amanda Elizabeth Stribling Crain, widow of James Wesley Crain, and then with my uncle, James Edwin Crain. Until Aunt Delia's younger brother, George Abijah Crain died in July, 1946, she and Uncle George lived in a tiny ramshackled house located just north of the Coryell Church Cemetery, Coryell Church Community, Coryell County, TX. After Uncle George died Aunt Delia had only nephews and neices left. She was too ill and too destitute to live alone so Daddy and Uncle Edwin brought her to Hamilton. The two sons and daughter of Uncle Thomas Martin Crain were not interested in helping her. Aunt Delia was a daughter of James Martin Crain and Marah "Mary" Ann McGlothlin Crain. She died in the home of my uncle, James Edwin Crain, in the Lund Valley Community of Hamilton County. She was buried beside her brother, George Abijah, and near her parents in the Coryell Church Cemetery, Coryell County, TX. None of these four graves is marked by a tombstone. There is not a death record for Aunt Delia in Hamilton County, TX, nor is there a death record in Coryell County, TX for Aunt Delia, Uncle George, nor their parents, James Martin and Marah "Mary" Ann McGlothlin Crain. But there is a death record for James Martin Crain available from the State of Texas. During the time Aunt Delia lived in Hamilton County, my father, Robert Verne Crain and his siblings questioned Aunt Delia about their ancestors. My grandfather, James Wesley Crain, had died in 1930 when his children were young adults so they did not have much information about ancestors. Despite the fact that Aunt Delia was terminally ill during her last year of life, her story has been an excellent starting point for genealogy research. We have been able to document many of the details she related. Both my father and his younger sister, Lura Bernice Crain Perry recorded some of the information Aunt Delia related.--Elreeta Crain Weathers

Aunt Delia died in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, TX, according to her death record. That is the reason I could not find a death record for her in either Hamilton County or in Coryell County. Apparently Uncle Edwin took her to his daughter, Lucy who lived at 1212 Hammond in Fort Worth, before she was hospitlized and died and Elmwood Sanitorium.
