Richard Hugh Carmichael born 15 Oct 1827 in Clarke County, GA to William & Elizabeth Bell "Williams" Carmichael. His Father William Carmichael (1780-5 Oct 1846) was born in 1780 in Abbeville, SC and died 5 Oct 1846 in Walton County, GA. William married first Sallie Smith 1 Nov 1799 in Virginia, William marred second Elizabeth Bell Williams 1 Jun 1818 She is the mother of Richard Hugh Carmichael who married Sarah Welborn on 29 Jun 1846 in Fulton County, GA. His mother, Sarah Welborn was born 18 May 1826 in Crawfordsville, Talieferro(Wilkes), GA, she died 16 Oct 1926 and was buried in Newnan, Coweta, GA living over 100 years. Richard Hugh Carmichael was a Carriage Maker by trade. He served as a Private in Company H of the Georgia State Guards Confederate States Army during the War Between the States 1861-1865. He was in the Quartermaster Corps and with the aide of his son William Spencer Carmichael removed casualties from the Battle Fields around Atlanta, GA in 1864. He died of exposure on 23 Oct 1865 as a result of his service in the War. Richard Hugh & Sarah Welborn Carmichael had four children, three of which lived to adulthood. An unnamed son died at birth 17 May 1848. Their Children were Frances Catherine 1847-1907; Julia Elizabeth 1848-1939 and William Spencer 1850-1943.
