SCOTTDALE—Alva Lloyd Lambing, 74, a resident of Alverton for the last 40 years, died Monday evening at his home after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 5, 1883, in Armstrong County, a son of the late John and Mary Ann Steffy Lambing. Prior to his retirement in 1934 because of ill health, he had worked for 35 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad, serving in the telephone and signal maintenance departments of the Pittsburgh and Southwest branches. He attended the Alverton Methodist Church, where he had taught Sunday school for many years, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen of America. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jessie Gartley Lambing; one son, H. Edgar at home; nine daughters, Mrs. Walter (Ruth) Cornelius of Niles, Ohio, Mrs. Harry (Beryl) Strandberg of Norvelt, Mrs. Ralph (Marian) Auld of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. William (Alvarene) Hill of Connellsville, Mrs. William (Jean) Muir of Greensburg, R. D. 2, Mrs. Vinson (Twila) Hatcher of Greensburg, Mrs. Milton (Vivian) Hernley of Scottdale, Mrs. Eugene (Kathleen) Craig of Normalville, and Mrs. William (Phyllis) Sherbondy of Laurelville; 24 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Bordner and Mrs. Cora Taylor, both of Saltsburg. The body will be at the Murphy funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
