Rescuers in June 1923 after the area's worst flood included: Virgil Elder, Homer, Louise and Jean Mullinex, Aaron Blankenship, I.C. Lane, and E. Bainter. The two unidentified men in the back were leading Earl Burrows out of the flood waters. Burrows had spent the night in a tree after becoming stranded on the county road one mile west of Belle Plaine near the Darby Bridge. This picture was taken nearly 24 hours after the water had crested.
