Known as Yost Jacob Yoder to his Illinois Yoder descendants.Johann was the son of Yost Yoder and Elizabeth Kuhlewein, who were Swiss immigrants from Steffisberg, and also buried in Pleasantville Union Cemetery. He was married to Catherine Oyster.

Their children were

Earl and Oley township.
