Bennie Mae was born on Liner Creek of the Upper Crabtree Community. She loved her family and devoted her life to being a Christian wife and mother and in service to others. She married Thomas Taylor Noland of the same community and they had four daughters and a son who died when he was an infant:Pauline Mae, Lucille, Lottie Ellen,Thomasine, and Quinton. Bennie Mae loved flowers and grew many beautiful ones in and around her home. She enjoyed doing crafts also. Her obituary reads:
Mrs. Bennie Mae Hill Noland, 76, of Route 1, Clyde, died Tuesday in Haywood County Hospital following a brief illness (her heart). A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of Charles Lafayette and Lillie McCracken Hill and a member of James Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas T. Noland; four daughters, Mrs. Pauline Rogers, Mrs. Lucille Sutton, Mrs. Lottie Hall, and Mrs. Thomasine Howell, all of Clyde; a foster son, Tommy Hannah of Carolton, Michigan; six sisters, Mrs. Grace Giles and Mrs. Cecil Best of Clyde, Mrs. Mattie Medford, Lake Junaluska, Mrs. Leola Sanford and Mrs. Fannie McCracken of Canton, and Mrs. Wiley Crawford of Enka; three brothers, Edwin Hill, Salma Hill, and Wallace Hill of Clyde; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. The Rev. Arlin Freshour, the Rev. Carl Chastain, the Rev. Elbert Deason, and the Rev. Carl Presnell will officiate. Burial will be in the Upper Crabtree Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Memorial may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad or to the Heart Fund.
The body was taken today to the home where it will remain until placed in the church for the service. Crawford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
