Charles had also served as Chairman of the Board for Aldermen. He served as President of the Louisville Board of Trade and the Pendennis Club & as a director in the Fidelity & Columbia Trust Company , The Union National Bank , The Federal Chemical Company & The Louisville Railway Company.
Charles was also a senior warden of Christ Church Cathedral. In March of 1916 he was elected as the President of the Associated Western Yale Clubs. He had also served as a member of the Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Kentucky & the Kentucky Society of the Sons of the Revolution.
His wife was , Modesta Amelia Breaux , and the couple were married ; April 24 , 1878. Together , they had 8 children.
As President of the Ballard & Ballard CO. , Charles was responsible for establishing a profit sharing system & welfare program for his companies workers. The Ballard & Ballard CO. were among one of our nation's first companies to incorporate the use of profit sharing & welfare work.
The last couple years of Charles life were spent in ill health. He had died suddenly from Myocarditis on May the 8th , the year of 1918 at his estate in Glenview. After his death , the presidency of the Ballard & Ballard CO. was turned over to his brother Samuel.
