BENNETTSVILLE - Esther O. Chavis Driggers, age 91, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Cheraw Healthcare.

Born in Marlboro County, she was the daughter of the late L.C. and Annie Quick Chavis.

She was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for over 75 years and attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Mrs. Driggers was a caring friend and neighbor to many in her community who were in need.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Driggers and his wife, Virginia of Bennettsville, Johnny 'Jay' Odom and his wife, Shirley of Gibson, NC; three daughters, Annie Ollivier of Desert Center, CA, Dorothy Walters of Anchorage, AK, and Lavon Davis and her husband, Walter of Bennettsville; and 24 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Driggers was predeceased by her husband, Walter C. Driggers, Sr., and three children, Walter Corbett Driggers, Jr., Eugene 'Brother' Driggers and Nadine Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009, at 4 p.m., Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, in care of Joan Brock, 1701 Highway 9 West, Bennettsville, SC 29512.

Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw is serving the family of Mrs. Driggers.
