Earl M. Shelton, 77, son of William A. Shelton and Icy Gustava Flowers Shelton, was born January 16, 1911, at Houston. He died January 4, 1989, at his home in the Ellis Prairie Community.
He married Helen Irene Hayes December 8, 1934. They had four children.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, of more than 54 years; his children, Dean of New London, Betty McKee of Bucyrus, Wanda Garrett of Big Piney and Janet Cole of Houston; nine grandchildren, six great-grand children; two brothers, Jack of Ellis Prairie and Bill of Success; three sisters Lillian Wheeler of Houston, Doris Hill of Augusta, Kansas, and Verl Johnson of Houston, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one grandson.
Mr. shelton spent his lifetime in this area, where he was a farmer.
He was a long-time member of the Ellis Prairie Baptist Church. He was ordained as deacon on June 25, 1972.
Services were Saturday, January 7, at the Ellis Prairie Baptist Church, with the Rev. Maurice Allen and the Rev. Claude Brown officiating.
Burial was in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery under the direction of the Evans Funeral Home.
