Hazel was born to John W. and Jane E. Harris Green. She married James Delbert Mathews on December 3, 1913 in Tunnelton, he died on February 15, 1988.
Survivors include four sons Ralph Chester, Needmore, Roy Clyde of Converse, Vernon Glenn of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Willard Leon of Bedford. Two daughters Mrs. Helen Holt and Mrs. Ilene Jenkins both of Bedford, 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and two grand-daughters.
She was a homemaker and a member of the White River Baptist Church, where she formerly was the pianist and organist.
Services will be at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Brown and Rev. Perry East officiating. Burial will be in White River Baptist Church cemetery.
