Star Valley's Oldest Resident Dies at Thayne
Star Valley's oldest resident, Sarah Humpherys Pasey 97, of Thayne died Tuesday night Jan 11 at about 11:30 p.m. at her home after a short illness.
Mrs Passey who was born April 10 1874 at Paris Idaho.had lived in Star Valley since 1902 when she and her late husband, George A Passey, homesteaded at Thayne. It is reported that she retained fairly good health and a keen mind right up to her death.
Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, Jan 15 at 1 p.m.in the Thayne Ward Chapel.

Funeral services were held Saturday Jan 15 at 1 p.m in the Thayne Ward LDS Chapel with Counselor Leo Pendleton conducting for Sarah Ludolph Humpherys Passey 97, Star Valley's oldest resident, who died Jan 11, 1972 at her home in Thayne after a short illness. Burial was in the Thayne Cemetery.
She was born April 10, 1864 at Paris, Idaho to John James and Mary Ann Smith Humpherys. She attended school at Paris up to the "fifth reader" as it was called in those days. The older children went to school in the winter, and the younger children in the summer.
She married George Alvin Passey Sept 30 1896 in the Logan LDS Tmeple. The trip was made with a team and wagon, taking two day each way. Their first home was at Lanark, Idaho and when it burned down in 1902 they moved to Star Valley and homesteaded 160 acres north of Thayne. They sold the ranch and moved into town about 1954. Mr Passey died March 25, 1956.
Mrs Passey remained in her home and took care of herself until she was 90 years old, when she broke her hip. After that she lived with her daughter Flora Schwab.
She was always active in the LDS Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher for 35 years, as a Primary teacher, counselor in the YWMIA and as a visiting Relief Society teacher until 90 years old. She was one of the first members to join the Silver Star Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
She lived long enough to witness the changes from living in a log cabin with a dirt roof, with travel by horse and buggy to the new modern homes with all the conveniences and sending men to explore the moon.
She is survived by one son, Delvin P. Thayne, Wyo.; four daughters, mrs Herbert (Flora) Schwab, Thayne; Mrs Orsen (Orleen) Lake, Irwin, Idaho; Mrs Merlyn (Fontella) Kuntz, Evanston, Wyo.; and Mrs Carl (Neva) Schramm, Payson, Utah. 26 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren.
Tuesday night, Jan 11, Mrs Sarah Passey 97, the oldest resident of Star Valley passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs Flora Schwab following the flu. Her daughter Mrs Carl Schramm of Payson, Utah was with her mother. Mrs Passey had been able to attend DuP meetings with the help of her grandsons in the past. Funeral services were held Saturday and burial was in the Thayne Cemetery.
