Youngest son of Admiral Joseph "Bull" Mason REEVES, USN (dec). William, a graduate of the Military Academy at West Point (USMA, Third Battalion, Class of 1933) was flying in low ceiling conditions with another Army aviation mechanic. They were working their way back to their duty post at the U. S. Army's Crissy Field, The Presidio (San Francisco), California (CA) when he tried to find his bearings south of San Francisco County due to poor visibility. While approaching a highway near San Francisco Bay they struck a tree and then a telephone pole crashing onto the highway. The crash caused both the mechanic to be ejected where he died on impact while William was burned to death in the wreckage near Burlingame (San Mateo), California. The account of William's accident can be found in various newspapers including the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Nevada State Journal, all of December 17th, 1934.
