Jean Armour (Granger) Felder, wife of longtime Palestine, Texas physician and surgeon Dr. Fred E. Felder, died in Paris, Texas July 2, 1995. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine. Burial was in Palestine City Cemetery (New Addition Annex section). Mrs. Felder was born in Austin, Texas on Feb. 11, 1907, a daughter of Charles Thomson and Lucille Douglas Byers Granger. She attended public schools in Austin, then attended the University of Texas where she received her B.A. and M.A. degrees with honors. She married Dr. Fred. E. Felder Nov. 11, 1931, in Austin. They moved to Palestine in 1933, where she resided until 1991, when she moved to Paris because of failing health. A lifetime Presbyterian, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palestine, where she had been active in the women's organizations and had served as a Sunday school teacher. Throughout her lifetime she was involved in the PTA, a member of the Carnegie Library Board, a member of the Pioneer, Garden Club, the William Findley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of the Harvey Woman's Club, serving as its organizing membership chairperson and president from 1976-1977. She also was a member of the Acorn Club of Palestine. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Fred Felder of Paris; daughter and son-in-law, Barrillon and Dr. Marshall Dougherty of Paris; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Pauline Felder Jr. of Oakland, Calif.; granddaughters, Jean Dougherty of Dallas, and Susan Dougherty of Atlanta, Ga.; grandsons and daughters-in-law, Marshall and Tracy Dougherty of Littleton, Colo., and Mike and Wendy Dougherty of Paris; great-grandson, Andrew Felder of Oakland, CA; and great-granddaughter, Katherine Dougherty of Littleton, Co. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bell Granger James; brother, Charles Thomson Granger Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Annie Gem Felder. Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Starkey, Hugh Summers, Marshall Dougherty Jr., Mike Dougherty, Tommie Bailey and Bill Knowles. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Bailey, Bailey Summers, Clint Surles, W. H. (Bill) Matthews, Tom Granger and Cad Williams. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
