Alta M. Cook, 96, of Glen Fork, WV, passed away Friday, February 20, 2009, at her residence. Mrs. Cook was a lifelong resident of Glen Fork and was a member of the Glen Fork Baptist Temple.

Born February 12, 1913, at Glen Fork, she was the daughter of the late Allen Jackson Adkins (1875-1961) and Rebecca E. Brooks-Adkins (1885-1970). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Remley Cook (1909-1957) whom she married on November 16, 1934 in Lashmeet, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1934, Page 427, Application Date: November 16, 1934); three brothers, Clarkson "Clark" Adkins (1909-Deceased), Herman Adkins (1926-1993), and Willis Adkins (1922-1992); four sisters, Ethel M. Adkins-Gamble (1906-Deceased), Ila Geneva Adkins-Powers (1917-2008), Nola Cynthia Adkins-Sanders (1911-2000), and Thelma Adkins-Acord (1907-1991); and two granddaughters, Karen Woods-Massey (Deceased) and Michelle Cook (Deceased).

Survivors include three sons, Truman Lee Cook (1937–2019) of Glen Fork WV, James "Mackie" Cook & wife Ellie Cook of Woodbridge, VA, and Kenneth Cook & wife Kathy Cook of Kopperston, WV; seven daughters, Trilla Cook-Morgan & husband Rolland Morgan of Roanoke VA, Justine Cook-Acord of Murphy, NC, Georgia Cook-King & husband Charles King of Townsend, TN, Mary Cook-Woods of Mint Hill, NC, Brenda Cook-Marshall of Sabine, WV, Carolyn Cook-Reid & husband Gene Reid of Glen Fork, WV, and Penny Cook-Coleman & husband Ron Coleman of Catawba, NC; four sisters, Opal Adkins-Francis (B. 1925) of Glen Fork, WV, Inez J. Adkins-Bolen-Cook (1915-2010) of Matheny, WV, Janet Adkins-Pruitt of Sabine, WV, and Audie Tula Adkins-O'Brien (1920-2012) of Dublin, VA also surviving her are 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Alta's life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2009, in the Evans Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Brian Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Community Cemetery, Ravencliff.
