Private Continental Army, Enlisted on 28 Oct 1780 in Lutton, Massachusetts. Stature 5'5", dark complexion, Farmer, engaged for town of Sutton 11 Jan 1781. Discharged on 28 Oct 1783 at West Point, New York.

Rufus Married Mahitable Shippen 15 Dec 1785, Penobscot, Maine. Mahitable died 27 Jan 1810 in Corinth, Penobscot, Maine.

Rufus married a widow, Elizabeth "Betsy" Clark (Mayhew)2 Apr 1812 in Corinth, Penobscot, Maine. No children were born of this union (although some of Rufus's Inman children married Betsy's Mayhew children. Sarah Inman married Nathaniel Mayhew 1816 in Maine. Elizabeth Inman married Alfred Mayhew 1820 in Ohio. Arnold Inman married Pomelia Mayhew 1820 in Ohio. Aaron Inman married Mehitable Mayhew 1825 in Ohio.) The Summer of 1819 Rufus, Betsy & some of their children loaded their possessions on a two wheeled cart & emigrated to Jefferson County, Ohio. Arriving in the Fall they built a log cabin.

Rufus applied for a Federal pension in August 1820 in Jefferson County, Ohio, Pension Claim S 41680 Mass.

Rufus later moved to Washington County, Ohio near Marietta where he spent the remainder of his life.
