Abraham Markosian , Businessman, Dies
Businessman and philanthropist Abraham ''Mark'' Markosian died Jan. 13 of natural causes while skiing with two grandsons at Snowbird. He was 74.

The founder of Mark Steel, a Salt Lake City-based steel fabrication firm, Markosian was known as a savvy businessman who had a big heart.

''He was a real gentleman who always showed concern for other people,'' says Jim Gingras, who worked for Markosian for 23 years at Mark Steel.

Born May 10, 1923, in Murray, Markosian was the son of Armenian immigrants Nick and Takoohle Markosian.

He attended schools in Murray and later Tulane and Harvard universities. He served as a naval officer in World War II and the Korean conflict.

He founded Mark Steel in 1968 and built it into a highly successful business. He also was the owner of K & K Truck Equipment.

He also was a trustee of Salt Lake Community College, where he was a donor for the Markosian Library on its Redwood Road campus.

Services will be at noon today at Christ Lutheran Church, 240 E. 5600 South. He is survived by his wife, Arline, and three sons and two daughters.
