his son Joshua had married a Native girl and had shot at the English 20 times (probably to protect the Natives). He had been captured and executed in Rhode Island. According to this link, John went to "recall him" (get the body back for burial), lost his head and laid unburied. So to my understanding, John went to get his son's body back to bury him, was attacked by Natives, beheaded and left lying on the ground. So the end of his story was he had been beheaded on his way to retrieve his dead son's body.
