Charlie Elden Crews, 88, of Hoboken died Wednesday morning (August 28, 2013) at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Hoboken to the late Charlie C. Crews and Mary Emmaline Lee Crews and lived there most of his life. Mr. Crews was a carpenter by trade, but also worked as a welder, in sheet metal, farming, electrician, school bus driver and was a jack of all trades. Most of all he was the best daddy in the world. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters and brothers, Homer Crews, Vera Crews Stone, Fannie Crews Aldridge, Albert Crews and Randolph Crews; three sons-in-law, Irving Stephen "Stevie" Patton, Ronald John Altman, and James Wade Lee.

Survivors include ten children, Carole Elaine Crews Heard and her husband Charles Earl Heard, Janice Crews Shuman and her husband Ray Shuman, Anna Kathryn Crews Altman, Elden Larry Crews and his wife Evelyn Thrift Crews, Emma Ruth Crews Lee, John Terry Crews and his wife Lera Cynthia Pittman Crews, Marilyn Crews Crawford and her husband Gary Boyce Crawford, Bruce Daniel Crews and his wife Barbara Ann Patten Crews, Thomas Ashley Crews and his wife Teresa Diane Steedley Crews, Dennis Edward Crews and his wife Susan Annette Harris Crews all of Brantley County;

A funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11 am at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 – 9 pm at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

The family requests any former pastors to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:40 am for the service.
