Charlie Elden Crews, 88, of Hoboken died Wednesday morning (August 28, 2013) at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Hoboken to the late Charlie C. Crews and Mary Emmaline Lee Crews and lived there most of his life. Mr. Crews was a carpenter by trade, but also worked as a welder, in sheet metal, farming, electrician, school bus driver and was a jack of all trades. Most of all he was the best daddy in the world. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters and brothers, Homer Crews, Vera Crews Stone, Fannie Crews Aldridge, Albert Crews and Randolph Crews; three sons-in-law, Irving Stephen "Stevie" Patton, Ronald John Altman, and James Wade Lee.

Survivors include ten children, Carole Elaine Crews Heard and her husband Charles Earl Heard, Janice Crews Shuman and her husband Ray Shuman, Anna Kathryn Crews Altman, Elden Larry Crews and his wife Evelyn Thrift Crews, Emma Ruth Crews Lee, John Terry Crews and his wife Lera Cynthia Pittman Crews, Marilyn Crews Crawford and her husband Gary Boyce Crawford, Bruce Daniel Crews and his wife Barbara Ann Patten Crews, Thomas Ashley Crews and his wife Teresa Diane Steedley Crews, Dennis Edward Crews and his wife Susan Annette Harris Crews all of Brantley County;

Twenty four grandchildren, Kenneth Ray Heard and his wife Allyson Watson Heard, Jeffrey Allen Heard and his wife Kristin Elizabeth Heard, Ann Marie Heard Arnold and her husband Brian Travis Arnold, Carrie Alicia Heard, Constance Renee Shuman Sartain and her husband John Curtis Sartain, Christopher Ray Shuman, Ronda Jo Altman Dowling and her husband Dave, Anna Rebecca Altman Payne and her husband Sammy Payne, Karen Denise Albritton Smith, Cecelia Roxanne Albritton Moore and her husband Stanley Moore, Charles Elden Crews and his wife Kimberly Diane Harris Crews, Cameron Ethan Crews and his wife Erin Griffis Crews, Jesse James Lee and his wife Christy Smith Lee, Dustie Danielle Lee McMillan and her husband Jonathan Larry McMillan, Candice Cynthia Crews King and her husband Brandon Terrence King, John Lamar Crews, Lisa Deione Patten Osban and her husband Robert Wallace Osban, Jr., Dori Michelle Crawford Buonanno and her husband John Buonanno, Amber Rose Crews Sapp and her husband Samuel Kevin Sapp, Matt Dillon Crews and his wife Heather Cook Crews, Grant Shane Crews, Meghan Molly Crews, Brandon Lewis Crews and his wife Kristen Morgan Crews, Jamie Lynn Crews Hall and her husband Aaron Hall.

Forty-eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Heard, Kathryn Marshall Heard, Cole Jeffrey Heard, Aiden Cooper Heard, Nolan Cross Heard, Parker Harrison Pete-Arnold, Gabriel Elias Arnold, Elijah Cloud Arnold, Karson Nicole Clements, Kelsey Denae Clements, Kloey "Laine" Clements, Lanie Abigail Shuman, Rachel Danielle Sartain, Christopher Michael Shuman, Matthew Ray Shuman, Jadison Sara Coker, Sky Christian Coker, Rebecca Nicole Payne, Kirsten Dowling, Todd Dowling, Shane Dowling, Jessica Smith, Leonard Smith, Eve Register, Ellen Channell, Elijah Moore, Lane Elden Crews, Rylie Issac Crews, Payton Eli Crews, Carter Mitchell Mattox, Ashley Danielle Lee, Dalton James Lee, Logan Elizabeth Lee, Morgan Ryan Dowling, Hunter Eugene Dowling, Ada Ruth McMillan, Ava Faye McMillan, Cody Pearson, Audrey Pearson, Jacob Pearson, Emily Diana Taylor, Samuel Terrence King, James Seaborn Braddy, Jr. "Staten", Sarah Elizabeth Osban, Ashton Frank John Buonanna, Ali Marilyn Buonanna, Matt Daniel Crews Hadley Amelia Crews, Kase Morgan Crews, Kannon Makai Crews; thirteen great-great grandchildren, Anthony Register, Donovan Register, Emberly Register, Harley Register, Richard Register, Jr., Lindsay Sills, Hayden Channell, Jonathan Douglas, Jayden Douglas, Elijah Moore, Caydon Latham, Trigger Ennis and Tucker Ennis; one brother, Harry Crews and his wife Helen of Brantley County; one sister-in-law, Ellen Crews of Brunswick; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11 am at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 – 9 pm at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

The family requests any former pastors to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:40 am for the service.
