We watched him breathing through the night,
His breathing soft and low,
As in his breast the wave of life
Kept heaving to and fro.
Our very hopes belied our fears,
Our fears our hopes belied;
We thought him dying when he slept,
And sleeping when he died.
For when the morn came, dim and sad,
And chill with early showers,
His quiet eyelids closed,
He had another morn than ours.
His funeral will take place from his late residence, No. 49 Falls road, this (Saturday) morning, at eight o'clock, thence to Corpus Christi Church, where a Requiem Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul. BS 3/30/1889
