Services for Ted Goedeke, 81, of Abilene, were Thursday at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Rodney Watson officiating.

Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery.

He died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Born in Abilene, he was the grandson of the late William and Rosalee Fredeck who were settlers to Abilene in 1881. Mr. Goedeke graduated from Abilene High School in 1928 and obtained a degree in chemistry from Texas A&M University in 1935.

He was an officer aboard a ship during maritime service and retired from the Merchant Marines after many years.

He was employed by Lykes Lines Co. and Delta Lines, which he retired from in the 1970s. After his retirement, he attended Rice University in Houston.

He had been a member of the Master Mates & Pilots Association, Texas A&M Ex-Students Association, the Houston Liderkranz and frequently visited Germany.

Survivors include several cousins.
