President of 1st Hufford Family Reunion

Abraham was the son of Daniel HUFFORD and Nancy Ann WELTY, and the brother of Catharine, Elizabeth, Sarah, Lydia, Solomon, Susan, Nancy, Daniel, John, and Rebecca.

He was reared as a farm boy. His school was a log school house eight miles north of Logan, Ohio. He remained on the farm until he was 21 when he began teaching. He taught for two-and-a-half years.

On April 7, 1859, in Perry Co., Ohio, he married Sarah KISHLER (b. 1841, Perry Co., Ohio). In September 1860, he and his wife moved to Tama Co., Iowa. They located on a farm in Toledo, Iowa. Abraham hauled lumber for 55 miles to get it to the site of where he built his family house. Four children were born to the marriage: Mary Alice (1861-1929, m. Owen Henry HOTTEL), Calista A., Willis Seward, and George Edward.

Abraham was the President of the Hufford Reunion at Rossville, Indiana, on August 25 and 26, 1909. He also was the president and prime organizer of the first reunion of all of the Hufford families. That reunion was held on Sepbember 22, 1898. The first large reunion came about because of a picnic held by the Huffords of Tama County, Iowa. Those at the reunion decided to have a reunion for Hufford families in general, and it was Abraham who did the burden of the work to organize the all-family reunion. It was he who found addresses and notified Huffords in thirteen different states.

From the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY, page 142:
"In the year 1897, at a picnic held by the Huffords of Tama County, Iowa, it was agreed to hold the first reunion of the Hufford families in general on the twenty-second day of September, 1898. Abraham Hufford was elected its first president, and Mrs. E.C. Foster, secretary. The burden of the work fell upon the president in getting the addresses and notifying all the Huffords located in thirteen different states."
