Funeral services for Cumie Fern (Cutbirth) Cowin, 92, of Theodosia, were held Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the Salem General Baptist Church in Theodosia with Don Yarger and Ann Saegesser officiating. Burial was in the Rhodes Cemetery. Mrs. Cowin died Feb. 19, 2009. She was born April 11, 1916, in Ocie, the daughter of Alfred and Hettie (Harless) Cutbirth. She and Henry Thomas Cowin were married on March 7, 1940. She was a homemaker. At the age of 10, she became a member of the Salem General Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and visiting with friends. She spent the past several years living with her daughter in Cassville. Mrs. Cowin is survived by her daughter, Evadene Vance and her husband, William, of Cassville; one brother, Gene Cutbirth and his wife, Erlene, of Spokane; six grandchildren, Larry Vance and his wife, Aimee, of Hendersonville, Tenn., Lisa McClintock and her husband, Kim, of Purdy, Brigitta Hess and her husband, Doug, of Cassville, Monica Bethards and her husband, Troy, of Bolivar, Onnica Hutchings and her husband, Steve, of Gainesville, and Hervil Cowin and his wife, Tracy, of Rogersville; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Judy (Cowin) Evans of Gainesville; two sisters-in-law, Sophronia Tabor and Vera Cowin; and many nieces, nephews, church family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; two sons, Dennis and Weldon; and three brothers and four sisters.
