James "Madison" Neese was the fifth child of William Joseph "Joe" Neese (1867-1948) and Mary Ellen Idona "Dona" Black (1872-1947). He was born in Covington County on November 22, 1900. In about 1923, he married Mittie E. Gilmer (1906-1999), the daughter of John W. Gilmer (1885- aft 1944) and Elizabeth "Lizzie" D. Bozeman (1885-1944). In 1924, a baby girl was born to Madison and Mittie. They named her "Evelyeen" and she lived only one day. In 1925, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Earl M. Neese. Tragedy struck the young family again when Madison's appendix ruptured and he died on July 23, 1925 in Andalusia, Covington, Alabama, at 25 years of age. Mittie went on and was married for a second time to Clarence A. Snowden (1884-1958). Earl is listed with his maternal grandparents, along with his mother, on the 1930 census, and then with his grandparents in 1940. We don't know what happened to him after 1940.
