Mr. Vernon Ira Hickox, 76, died Thursday (August 19, 2004) at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

He was a native and life long resident of Waycross. He was the son of the late David Ira Hickox and Mattie Stone Hickox. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen S. Dykes and a brother, Lloyd Hickox.

He was a Yard Conductor for the CSX Railroad retiring in 1987. He was an U. S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Crawford Street Baptist Church.

The survivors include his wife, Jerrell Bell Hickox of Waycross; three daughters, Susan L. Hickox of Waycross, Diane H. Slocumb (husband Jimmy) of Bainbridge and Wendy H. Brown (husband Leslie) of Patterson; two sons, David W. Hickox (wife Cynthia O.) and James "Jack" Hickox both of Waycross; four grandchildren, Jennifer S. Allen (husband Shaun) of Goldsboro, NC, Carolyn Hickox, Casey Hickox both of Waycross and Rebecca Chancey of Patterson; two great grandchildren, Austin Dykes and Karen Allen; four sisters, Geneva Morgan of Folkston, Alma Schultz of Waycross, Betty Wooten of Baxley and Virgie Mumms of Atlanta.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (August 22, 2004) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will be in the High Bluff Cemetery.

The Family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Saturday night from 6 until 8 o'clock.
