Sarah C. White was born in 1825 at Marietta, Cobb Co., GA. She was known as "The Mother of Atlanta". Sarah and Willis were married in 1841 in Marietta. Willis, age 21, Sarah, age 17 moved in June 1842 to Terminus later Marthasville (Atlanta). Their first child, Julia was the first child born in the settlement (Atlanta). The one room cabin on Marietta Road served as both dwelling and grocery store, for Willis lost no time in setting himself up in business. The stage between Marietta and Decatur was the most colorful daily event in their lives. Sarah married 2nd. Mr. Harris; the sister of Mrs. P.M. Hodge and Mrs. R.E. Woodbury and grandmother of Mrs. J.M. Cherry. Daughter of James White, who moved to GA in 1828 in 1841. She married Willis Carlisle, son of William T. Carlisle and Nancy Cocsie Sexton, on 1 Aug 1841 at Marietta, Cobb Co., GA. She died on 24 Oct 1898 at Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA. She was buried circa 29 Oct 1898 at Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA.
