Mary Lindsey Gordon was the daughter of Albin Gordon of South Carolina and Martha Riley of Kentucky, born about 1809. The death certificate of Mary Lindsey Gordon Rountree Walker revealed that her mother was Martha Riley and Mary named one of her sons in honor of her mother, Cleveland Riley Rountree, born in 1877.

Martha Riley Gordon died at age 40 around 1844 of unknown causes. Albin then married Rhoda Jones March 6, 1845 in Jackson County, Illinois as recorded in the Illinois Statewide Marriage records. Mary was four years old.

Mary married Jesse Ballard Rountree in 1860 McKinney, Texas. He served as a cavalry trooper and scout for the Confederate States of America and after the Civil War, Jesse and Mary had four children, Albin, Andy, Xanthippa and Riley, all born in Bonita, Montague Co. Texas.

Mary's father, Albin, was a country doctor and she spent time with him learning how to care for his medical patients. For most of her life, Mary was well known in her community for caring for the sick and injured. Jesse Rountree died in 1879 and Mary married James Calvin Walker about 1881. James was a dentist and they moved to Wellington, Texas and were regarded as popular and well-respected citizens there.
