Race Car Official. Born Waldo Dane Edenburn, he was journalist by profession who became one of the nation’s foremost sports writers working for the Indianapolis Star and Detroit News. Turning his interest to automobile races, he played a key role in officiating as a lobbyist, event organizer and a public relations specialist, in the automobile race industry. He represented the American Automobile Association Contest Board at many major events and was Chief Steward Official for the Indianapolis 500, (1919-34). He died from uremic poisoning at age 49. He is a member of the USAC Hall of Fame, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame and the prestigious Eddie Edenburn Award is named in his honor.
