Son of Thomas (1757-1841) and Nancy Nicholson (d. @1845); brother of John T. (b. 1835; same company), and Thomas, Jr. (b. @1833; blacksmith); worked as a blacksmith's apprentice w/ brother Thomas in the David B. Platt house, Monroe Twp., Washington Co., IN in 1850; married Miss Lucinda Fritz (b. @1841) on Sept. 2, 1860 in Washington Co., IN; children w/Lucinda: Eugene (1859-1941), Albert (1861-1938), Ebbert (1864-1914), Nancy (b. @1866-1959), Mary (b. @1868-1949), Thomas Moore (1870-1940), Robert (1873-1918), Edward (1875-1955), George (1876-1953), Unnamed Infant (b/d. June 1879), Daisy (1881-1975) and Hattie (1884-1903); enlisted in Co. D, 38TH IND INF on Sept. 18, 1861; elected 1ST CPL; severely wounded at the Battle of Stones River on Dec. 31, 1862; wounded again at the Battle of Chickamauga, GA in Sept. 1863; promoted to SGT; transferred to the 165TH CO., 2ND BTLN, Veteran Reserve Corps.

In addition to his work as a blacksmith, Peter was a highly skilled woodworker. He was also a member of Indiana G.A.R. Post #87 (Samuel Reid Post) after the war.
