Tad Sieja Anderson passed away peacefully at his home in Port Townsend on February 10, 2009, at the age of 89.

He will be remembered as a man of wisdom and generosity who always had a good story to tell.

His remarkable life began in Berlin, Germany, on December 16, 1919. He was raised in both Poland and France, and graduated from the Polish Maritime Academy just prior to World War II.

He served with distinction during the war as an officer with the British Merchant Navy, often sailing in convoys between London, England, and New York.

He brought ammunition and supplies to the soldiers at Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion, where his ship was badly damaged.

While his ship was being repaired, he became close friends with an American naval officer who convinced Tad to move to the United States.

After arriving in America in 1948 with his new British bride, Audrey, his mother-in-law, Elizabeth, and 1-year-old son, Chris, Tad made Chicago his home for the next 18 years.

He worked for Ecko Products Company as an engineer, where he met his lifelong sailing partner, John, who resides today in Port Townsend.

Tad subsequently moved to Los Angeles, where he became an executive for Capitol Records, with job assignments all over the world.

He retired to Port Townsend in 1989, and his friend, John, followed shortly thereafter. They bought a sailboat together and have become a fixture in the Port Townsend marina, avidly sailing their sloop almost every week of the year.

Tad was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Audrey, and his devoted sister, Janina Mosaniuk, of Katowice, Poland.

Tad is survived by his son, Chris, and daughter-in-law, Diane; his loving grandchildren, Kelly Pointer and her husband, Josh, and Heather Jackson and her husband, Dave; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ryan.

In addition, Tad has always remained close to other family members residing in South Dakota, Poland and France, and was fortunate enough to visit them on many occasions.

Services were held at Kosec Funeral Home in Port Townsend, and Tad's cremated remains will be inurned in the family niche at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.

Tad requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charitable organization of your choice.
