McCUNE — Helen Katherine Riggs, 79, of McCune died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 1992, at the Heritage Home in Parsons. She had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill the past several months. She was born Nov. 11, 1912, in rural McCune to William and Lida (Patterson) Parsons. On June 24, 1932, she was married to Berry P “Bud” Riggs in McCune. He died in 1952. Mrs. Riggs had lived and worked as a waitress in Illinois and Indiana for 30 years, returning to McCune in 1970. Survivors include: a sister Eathel Garard of McCune two brothers, Joe Parsons of Parsons; and Alex Parsons of McCune, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Williams and five brothers William, Lee, twins Ray and Jay, and Dick Parsons all of McCune. A graveside service was this afternoon at the McCune Cemetery canopy with the Rev Delbert Chance officiating. The Forbes-Murdock Funeral Home of McCune was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the McCune United Methodist Church.
