VIRGINIA B. {BROOKS} ALLEN, 96, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at her home in Park Centre in Newton, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 at the funeral home in Newton, Iowa.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the NEWTON UNION CEMETERY, Newton, Jasper County, Iowa.
VIRGINIA, the daughter of Rolla W. and Mary E. (Parkinson) BROOKS was born on September 13, 1912 in New Windsor, IL. VIRGINIA graduated from Newton High School in 1929. She had also attended Iowa State University in Ames, IA, and Emporia State University in Emporia, KS.
VIRGINIA worked as a librarian for 18 years at the Newton Public Library, Newton, Iowa, retiring in 1965.
VIRGINIA was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newton, Jasper County Farm Bureau No. 3, R.S.V.P., she was a past 4-H Leader, and she belonged to several Bridge Clubs. She loved being with her family. Enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, reading, she was a great cook of which baking pies and making noodles were her specialty. VIRGINIA has lived in the Kellogg, Iowa and Newton, Iowa area for 90 years.
Survivors include her son, Dick Allen of Newton; her daughter, Judy Allen of Iowa City, IA; two grandchildren, Tammy Smith of Newton, and Tim (Judy) Allen of Riverside, CA; her four great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nicholas Smith, and Chelsea and Alisa Allen; sister, Lucille Snodgrass of Newton; and various nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard in 1974; and two brothers, Benjamin and Verne Brooks.
