William Viles Dies
William M. Viles, 918 West St., died Thursday afternoon at Newman Memorial County Hospital. Mr. Viles was 95 years old and a lifetime Kansas resident. Funeral services will be held at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett chapel Saturday at 2 P.M. The Rev. James Kegin, pastor of the Free Methodist Church, will be in charge, and burial will be in the Fruitland Cemetery, west of Americus. Memorial contributions may be made to the Free Methodist Church. William M. Viles was born July 22, 1881, in Thompsonville, the son of Dennis and Lydia Adams Viles, and he married Mary Busch, June 8, 1905, in Lecompton. In 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Viles moved from Lecompton in a covered wagon to Harvey County where he farmed. They came to Lyon County in 1913 and settled at Americus where Mr. Viles continued to farm until 1945. After his retirement, they moved to their home at 918 West St. Mr. and Mrs. Viles celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Viles is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Elmer Finney, Americus, Mrs. Curtis Miller, 523 East St., Mrs. Clem Bass, 23 Cottonwood St., and Mrs. Thomas Suddock, 619 Lawrence St.; two sisters, Mollie Lundy, Lawrence, and Gertrude Anderson, Yakima, Wash.; and 15grandchildren,45 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Viles was preceded in death by one son Bud and one daughter Doris; six brothers, Richard, John, Jessie, Elmer, Willis and Arthur Viles; and five sisters, Ella Viles, Pearl Zebb, Maude Carlson, Ann Kettering, and Alice Schaft.
