Betty is survived by her son Johnnie (Laura) Schafer; grandson, J. Henry Schafer; brother, Russell Curry; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mrs. Ames was preceded in death by her husband James "Vernie" Ames; her parents; two brothers, John (Kaye) Curry and Harold Curry; fiancé Rob Minor; and beloved dog Bear.
Betty was a graduate of Petersburg Harris High school and retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crafts and was a wonderful cook. Family was her biggest joy in life. She will be greatly missed.
Per Betty's request cremation rites have been accorded. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg will be handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's honor to Best Friends Animal Society.
