Mary Lee Roach Durrence, 98, died Sunday, August 5 at Riverside Senior Living in Decatur, Ala. She was a native of Evans County. She attended Georgia Teachers College and worked in education for a number of years. Mrs. Durrence was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Claxton, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, youth counselor and held various positions with the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, George T. Durrence and a daughter, Mary Ann Durrence.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Mosley of Vidalia and Jane Vaughan of Decatur, Ala.; five grandchildren, John Mosley, George Mosley, Ned Grubb, Matt Grubb and Lee Ellen Geriner; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 8, 11 a.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Tab Smith officiating. Burial was in Brewton Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons and great grandsons.
