Dora Lang, 88, of Barrett, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at her home.

She was born March 22, 1914, the daughter of Axel and Clara Sandberg, in Sheho, Saskatchewan, Canada, where she was also baptized. In 1923, the family moved to Erdahl, where they took over the restaurant. She was confirmed at Erdahl Lutheran Church in 1927. She attended West Central Agriculture School in Morris for a year and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1933. For several years, she and her brother, Milo, ran the restaurant.

On Jan. 11, 1942, she married Warren Lang at Erdahl Lutheran Church. In the early years, the couple lived in Chicago, Ill., and Duluth. In 1944, they moved to Barrett. Mrs. Lang led a full life, working many jobs in Barrett: Bjorgen's Grocery, Restaurant, and from 1969 until retirement, she worked for the U.S. Post Office. She was an active member of Our Savior's-Peace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, participated in circle and quilting. She was also a member of the Commercial Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Study Club, Senior Citizens and served as the chairperson for the Old Settlers King and Queen committee from 1963 until 1994. She enjoyed her extended family, nurturing nieces, nephews and the neighborhood children. She also enjoyed planting and working in her garden, knitting, reading, playing cards, and spending time at her cabin on Eagle Lake.

Survivors include her son, Jeff (Cheri) Lang of Barrett; three grandchildren, Todd, Erica and Mark; two sisters, Phyllis Johnson of Melby and Marvel Sandberg of Barrett; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Sandberg of Barrett; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her parents; a brother, Milo; and a sister, Edna Gulsvig Swenson.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett, with the Rev. Gary Harris officiating. Burial was in Bethesda Cemetery in Barrett. Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake was in charge of arrangements.
