Christopher David Wilcox
WILCOX Christopher David Wilcox, a bright, caring, young man with a gift for seeing the best in others, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 in New Orleans, LA at age twenty-three. Christopher was born on January 2, 1986 in Jacksonville, Florida to proud parents Nancy Mello and Robert Wilcox. In 1989, the family moved to Dallas, where he spent his formative years. A graduate of the class of 2004 from Jesuit College Preparatory School, he was involved with lacrosse, cross-country, track, rugby and Science Bowl. He will be sincerely missed by his many friends, teachers, teammates and coaches. The fond memories of his years at Jesuit helped him maintain close relationships with his Jesuit classmates throughout the years. He lived his life exemplifying the Jesuit motto "Men for Others." Christopher earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in May 2008. Despite his rigorous academic schedule, he enjoyed his Delta Upsilon fraternity brothers, where he was known for his leadership and ever-present sense of humor. He was focused and hardworking, a member of Chi Epsilon, an honorary civil engineering society, and graduated with academic honors. While attending Purdue, he held internships at engineering firms Jones & Boyd in Dallas and Burns & McDonald in Chicago. Upon graduation, he began working for Shell Exploration Company in New Orleans. At Shell, he provided engineering design and support services for oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Christopher was a bright star who drew people to him with his warm smile, quick wit and magnetic personality. An avid reader, he was knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics and was a great conversationalist. He genuinely appreciated all the people and opportunities in his life. Christopher enjoyed life fully. Outgoing and gregarious, he saw the funny side of life and was always ready with a mischievous prank. With his nieces and nephews, he was patient, gentle and kind. Christopher was also adventurous through his love of fishing, hunting, camping and the great outdoors. Christopher was a supportive and loving brother to his younger siblings, Alex and Melanie; his half-sister, Raleigh; his step-sisters: Christine Mello and Kathryn Polk (husband Skeet); and stepbrother, Eddie Mello (wife Ashley). He was welcomed to heaven by his Grandmother Terree Ann Wilcox and adoring aunt and godmother Susan Cunningham. He was supported and encouraged by his stepfather Ed Mello. His stepmother, Ashley Wilcox, was an influence in his life and mourns his loss. He is also survived by his devoted grandparents Thomas and Lillian Cunningham of Indian Head Park, Illinois and Norbert and Jayne Wilcox of McKinney, Texas. He was loved and nurtured by his maternal aunts and uncles: Tom and Nancy Cunningham of LaGrange, Illinois, Mark and Liz Cunningham of Glenview, Illinois, and John and Jill Cunningham of Northfield, Illinois. He was equally adored by his paternal aunts and uncles: Dale and Cindy Wilcox of Addison, Texas, Glenn Wilcox and Barry and Shana Wilcox of Dallas and Bruce Wilcox of Foster City, California. He was treasured by his Cunningham cousins: Claire, Luke, Quinn, Kevin, Juliann, Ellyn and his Wilcox cousins: Blake, Meredith, Danielle, Zoe and Amy. Even the family dog, Marco, was partial to Christopher. A Rosary will be said at 4:00 pm on Friday, February 20, 2008, followed by visitation from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway (at Hillcrest), Dallas, Texas, 75225. The Funeral Sservice will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 10:30 am at St. Rita Catholic Community, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, 75244. After the burial service at Sparkman-Hillcrest, a reception to celebrate Christopher's life will be held at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Christopher Wilcox '04 Memorial Endowment Fund, Jesuit College Preparatory School, 12345 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas 75244. Donations may also be made online at www.jesuitcp.org. For those wishing to share their memories and recollections of Christopher, there is an open tribute group set up on Facebook (In Loving Memory of Chris Wilcox). Christopher profoundly touched so many lives. His legacy will be found in our memories and the imprint he left on our hearts. We are comforted by knowing that he is at peace in God's arms and we anticipate the day we will see him again. Everyday, we will miss Christopher's warm smile, zest for life, genuine kindness and playful personality. We will always love you Christopher.
