Mr. Charles Benjamin Bloxton, age 63, of Spout Springs, Appomattox County, VA, died suddenly at 4:30 AM on Thursday, February 20, 1908, at the home of his son, Mr. John Willard Bloxton (1870-1939), 1920 Carr Street, Greensboro, NC. C.B. Bloxton had been in good health and was as well as usual the night before, the summons coming quite sudden. He came to Greensboro the previous week to attend the funeral of his son's wife, Olive Jennings Bloxton, who died February 5th. C.B. Bloxton's remains were shipped to the former home of the deceased for interment.

His oldest son, Rev. Floyd E. Bloxton, died that same year of 1908.

A party hosted by their children, Miss Etta Bloxton and her brother, Dr. Benjamin Bloxton of Richmond, VA, was held in 1904 at "Poplar Springs," the country home of C.B. Bloxton in Spout Springs.

According to newspaper accounts, Clementine V. Portwood (Mrs. C. B.) Bloxton died on Monday, 11:30 p.m., June 10, 1907, at her home in Spout Springs, VA near Reedy Springs Church. The burial took place at the Bloxton family burying ground at Spout Springs on Wednesday afternoon at 2 PM. Their son, Mr. John Willard Bloxton, closed his furniture store on South Elm Street, Greensboro, NC, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

October 15, 1905, Don Alonzo Sanford wrote: "Ticket to Washington (D.C.)....Charles Bloxton and I attend church at Metropolitan Church. We got dinner at Arizona (Don's hotel; he took train to Glenmore Farm the next day, Oct 16th)."

Overview:
Staunton Hill Light Artillery completed its organization at Richmond, Virginia, in September, 1861. The unit was divided into three sections: two served in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida near Savannah and the third in the Department of North Carolina. In May, 1862, they united in North Carolina and aided in the defense of Wilmington. One section was captured at Fort Anderson and the other two were assigned to B.C. Manly's Battalion in the Army of Tennessee. Only a few surrendered on April 26, 1865. Its captains were Charles Bruce and Andrew B. Paris.
