Born March 10, 1934 in Collins, Georgia to the late E.B. and Gladys L. Kennedy, he was a retired pipe fitter from Local 177. Mr. Kennedy was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed bird watching, traveling, Oreo cookies and spending time with his family. He was a member of Darien United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 137. Like his father, Mr. Kennedy was active in Boy Scout leadership for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, George Anthony Kennedy in 1971.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Myrt Kennedy of Darien, two sons, Bert Kennedy and wife Sandra of Whitefish, MT, and David Kennedy and wife Kathie of Silverdale, WA, one daughter, Terry Jennings and husband William of Darien, grandchildren, Justin Boyer, Elizabeth Ferrell and husband Justin, Will Jennings, Millie Jennings, Benjamin Kennedy and wife Leslie, Matthew Kennedy, Danielle Parrish, Derek Parrish, and Madison Kennedy, great grandchildren, A'layziah Boyer, Sophia Ferrell and Preston Ferrell, one sister, Nancy Kicklighter of Shellman Bluff, and a brother, Dr. Joseph Kennedy and wife Dine of Canton, NY, and several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to recognize special caregivers and friends Woodrow and Peggy Sessoms.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 3, 2011, from 10 AM until the funeral hour at Darien United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 219 (Darien), Hospice of The Golden Isles , or Darien United Methodist Church.
