CUTTINGSVILLE - Richard Harrison Stocker, 78, died Oct. 31, 2000, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born March 24, 1922, in Cavendish, son of Fredrick and Isadore (Legacy) Stocker.

He graduated from Rutland Business College in 1954.

Mr. Stocker was married to Pauline Rumrill on April 4, 1952.

He was employed by Woolen Mills and did carpentry work, retiring in 1974.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Stocker's hobbies included playing poker, raising potatoes, yard sales and flea markets. He also enjoyed dancing and listening to old country greats.

He was a former member of the American Legion Post 31.

Survivors include his wife of Cuttingsville; five sons, Curtis Stocker of Ryegate, Bruce Stocker of Bridport, David Stocker of Brookneal, Va., Greg Stocker of Mount Holly and Dennis Stocker of Wallingford; four daughters, Jean Corey of San Anselmo, Calif., Linda Norton of Proctorsville, Delores Batchelder of Groton and Gayle Stocker of Cuttingsville; three sisters, Rena Stocker of Cavendish, Thelma Plum of Andover and Gloria Vallier of Cornish, N.H.; his former wife, Josephine Stocker of Wells River; 29 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sons, Wayne Stocker and Kevin Stocker; two brothers, Frank Stocker and Arthur Stocker; and several sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Wallingford Aldous Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery in Cavendish.

Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
