"Frank Stone and his wife, Elizabeth Spradling, came to Texas from Tennessee in 1853 and built their home next to the creek just down the hill from this cemetery on 1,918 acres of land that Frank's father purchased in 1852. Frank acquired much of the surrounding land and eventually owned 6,000 acres in the Lucilla Gonzalez and Thomas Stoley surveys. Their oldest child Rufus, died while serving in the Confederacy. Their second child Cornelia, died of pneumonia, contracted after riding a horse to the College Mound Post Office for a letter from her boyfriend serving in the Confederacy. She was the first person to be buried here. The last person buried here was Mary Hottinger, who died from eating sample medicine thrown in the yard by a drug salesman. Frank and Elizabeth and their family comprise the 10 graves. On July 25, 2003 the cemetery was completely crushed under the weight of a massive bulldozer, by vandals. Martin Marietta, the operator of the surrounding rock quarry has covered the cost of replacing seven of the original stones and the fence."
