Obituary from The Eugene Guard (Eugene, Oregon) 4 Oct 1939, Wednesday:

Thomas Baxter Scroggs, Horn Lane, died Tuesday at the age of 80. He was born born January 1, 1859, in Maryville, Tenn., and came to Oregon from North Dakota. He settled near Dayton, living there for three years, and came to Eugene 30 years ago. He was for many years a fruit grower near Eugene. He belonged to the Santa Clara Christian Church and the I.O.O.F. lodge. He was initiated into the lodge in February 1890, in Indiana.

Mr. Scroggs is survived by his wife, Nannie J. Scroggs; three sons, Lyle and Roy of Eugene, and F. E. Scroggs of Indianapolis; two brothers, John M. of Colville, Wash., and Bruce F. of Tipton, Ind; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One son, Howard, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Branstetter-Simon chapel, with the I.O.O.F. lodge in charge of the graveside service. Rev. Arthur Edwards will officiate.
