Son of Anders (Andrew) Carlsson and Marian Nilsson. He was raised in Sweden. He was the first of his family to migrate to America (at around age 17). He then worked and saved money to bring the rest of his family to Utah. He married Caroline Marie Haas in January, 1885. They were the parents of: Charles (Jr.), Rumansel (Son), Lydia Caroline, Cora Mirinda, Duane O'Dell, Elba Edna, Anna Marie, Rudolph Burton and Grace Bernice.
