JOHANN JAKOB GLOECKLER was born in the town of Metzingen in the Black Forest (Schwarzwaldkreis) region of the Kingdom of Wurttemberg in 1807. When he and his family emigrated to the United States around 1846-1847 and his name was changed to JACOB GLECKLER. He married Anna Marie Auer in Germany, May 1, 1838. They had 11 children: Ellen, Anna, Rachel, Fred, Mary, Julia, Rosa, Christina, David, Charles, and Louisa.
An American Civil War Soldier.
Jacob Gleckler, at 40 years of age, enlisted in the army as a Private on 25 October 1861. He joined Company E, 76th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 15 December 1861. Due to exposure during the winter of 1861-1862 he came down with chronic rheumatism and was eventually medically discharged from Co. E, 76th Reg't on 16 June 1863 in Walnut Hills, Mississippi.
