J. TOM COOPER DIES MONDAY AT HOSPITAL
Well Known Columbus Man Succumbs To Brief Illness
John Thomas Cooper, well known Columbus manufacturer, died Monday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock at the city hospital where he has been carried from his home, 1615 Twelfth street. He had been in ill health for some time but his condition had been regarded as serious for only a few days.
Mr. Cooper was a native of Columbus, he having been born here on Nov. 10, 1890, son of the late John Thomas Cooper and Leonora Flowers Newsome Cooper, prominent Columbus residents.
After attending local public schools, Mr. Cooper was a student at the Alabama Poltechnic Institute at Auburn, Ala. Later he was connected with his father in the operation of the Cooper Lumber company. Subsequently he was president of the Columbus Casket company.
Mr. Cooper was a veteran of the World war and was a member of the Charles S. Harrison post, American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucile Smith Cooper, two daughters, Miss Lucile Smith Cooper and Miss Susan Marion Cooper, two brothers, Willard Cooper and Charles Hadley Cooper, all of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the D. A. Striffler chapel.
Dr. Frederick S. Porter, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct the services and interment will follow in the family plat in Linwood cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: S. C. Butler, H. M. Hicks, W. T. Heard, Paul Blanchard, Early H. Johnson and R. E. Arnau. per: Lois Goodin Hottinger
